Confederate Veteran Grave Database

There are and have been many individuals and organizations researching and compiling information on the graves of the heroes of the Lost Cause. This has resulted in a variety of methods of documenting the results of these efforts ranging from loose leaf binders to websites. The Confederate Veteran Grave Database was designed to provide a central repository for this information.

Why use a database? A database provides a means of efficiently storing the grave information independent of the method or methods used for a user to access the data. This means separate applications, such as The Confederate Veteran Grave Database website, can use the same data in a number of different ways. It can be searched based on a number of parameters such as Veteran name, Cemetery Name, county where cemetery is located, etc. The data can be extracted and combined with other grave data or other collected data can be easily added to the database.

The Confederate Veteran Grave Database was designed using MySql. MySql is the world's most popular open source relational database.

The Confederate Veteran Grave Database remains a work in progress. Currently, the database contains the collected grave information from 61 counties in Georgia. The ultimate goal is to collect the grave information from all of Georgia's 159 counties.
